About

Mary A. Osborne is the author of The Last of the Magicians (forthcoming) and other books. An essayist at Parabola magazine, she’s interested in history, spirituality, and the healing arts.

After reading C.G. Jung’s Psychology and Alchemy, Mary continued to study the subject of alchemy and to explore Hermeticism, a philosophical and religious tradition that influenced early Christian thought. Both alchemy and Hermeticism draw from the esoteric writings of Hermes Trismegistus, a legendary Egyptian sage. Alchemical motifs and metaphors appear throughout Mary’s books and essays.

Rich in period detail, her novels blend magical realism, romance, and ancient mysticism. Mary’s work, like the classic fairytales of old, spark inner transformation and a flourishing of the mind and soul. Mary is a Consulting Editor at Parabola: The Search for Meaning, the Manhattan-based quarterly magazine where her nonfiction appears regularly.

Her writing has also been published in periodicals such as Hektoen International Journal and Newcity. A graduate of Rush University and Knox College, Mary has degrees in chemistry and nursing. She is a Chicago native.
